how we met
Our paths crossed several times throughout the last couple years with Tim’s regular trips to Afghanistan. We met in Sharon’s parents’ home in Kabul in December 2006, when Tim and a Hobo Project team were meeting with her dad. In July 2007, Sharon was preparing to move back to California to hone her midwifery skills and continue her studies. She was short on luggage space, so Tim volunteered to deliver one of her bags to Chicago. Sharon was staying with friends from Afghanistan in Chicago, when Tim delivered her bag. In the late summer, as Sharon was adjusting to life in America again, we started communicating often through email, which led to frequent chats online, and eventually phone calls. Tim had plans to visit his relatives in California over New Years which, due to some unseen changes in schedule, allowed him more time with Sharon than expected. They spent 6 months flying back and forth across the country to see each other, and in June Tim finally was able to move to California.
Tim and Sharon plan to live in the San Francisco Bay Area for a few years, before returning to Afghanistan to work long-term.
